FAQs about Original Paintings

What is an original painting?

An original painting is one that has been created directly by the artist. It’s not a reproduction or copy, it’s a unique piece of work. Chrissie only paints one version of her original paintings, so only one is available to buy. If a painting is showing as “out of stock”, this means that the one and only original has been sold.

What size is the painting?

Each painting for sale has the exact size detailed in the description, so please check this carefully. The size is given in inches and it’s the size of the actual painting itself – i.e. the painted board area, not including the slip or frame. Each original painting comes in a 2 inch moulded black wood frame, with a 1 inch slip in burnished silver. So add a total of 3 inches to both the painting width and height to get its fully framed size.

Are the paintings framed?

Yes, each original painting comes in a 2 inch moulded black wood frame, with a 1 inch slip in burnished silver.

Can I request a different frame?

No, the paintings only come in the frames as seen in the product image (a 2 inch moulded black wood frame with a 1 inch slip of burnished silver). If you wish to put the painting into a different frame, that is of course possible once you have purchased the painting. This needs to be arranged yourself at your own cost with an independent framer. Chrissie does not offer a framing service herself.

Can I view the painting before buying it?

Yes, if you would like to view any of the paintings in person before making a purchase, please contact Chrissie to make arrangements to view the collection on display at The Chapel Gallery in Glasshouses, near Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire, UK. Not all paintings are on permanent display in the gallery, so please do make sure you contact Chrissie before you visit so that she can make sure the specific painting(s) you wish to view are available.

The painting I want is out of stock – how can I get one?

Sadly you can’t! Chrissie only paints one version of her original paintings, so only one is available to purchase. Therefore, if a painting is showing as “SOLD” and the “Add to Cart” button isn’t showing on the painting’s website page , this means that the one and only original of this painting has already been sold.

Can I buy a painting from outside the UK?

Yes, you can. However, Chrissie doesn’t offer shipping for original paintings to locations outside of the UK. Therefore, the painting needs to be collected in person by you or your courier from The Chapel Gallery in Glasshouses, near Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire, UK. This needs to be arranged by you and at your own cost. Please make sure you contact Chrissie to confirm collection arrangements once you have purchased your painting so that it can be packaged up ready and to ensure that someone is available to hand the painting over to the courier. Chrissie is not responsible for any additional courier costs caused by you not liaising with her regarding the collection of the painting and it either not being ready or the gallery being closed.

How do I arrange for local pickup of my painting?

Once you have purchased your original painting, you will receive an order confirmation. If you are in the UK and have chosen the shipping option, Chrissie will package up your painting and send it to you within 7-28 days. But if you are outside the UK – or have chosen local pickup at checkout – the painting needs to be collected in person by you or your courier from The Chapel Gallery in Glasshouses, near Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire, UK . This needs to be arranged by you and at your own cost.

My painting is being shipped – when will I receive it?

If you are in the UK and have chosen to have your original oil painting shipped to you, it will be carefully wrapped and packaged by Chrissie and then sent to you by courier within 7-28 days of your order. You will receive notification when your order has been dispatched. If you are outside of the UK, shipping is not available and you will have to arrange for the local pickup of your painting (by you or courier at your own cost) – see more details above.

I have a problem with my original painting order – what should I do?

If you have any issues with your order, before or after purchase, please contact Chrissie and she will be in touch as soon as she can to help.

FAQs about Prints

What is a Giclée print?

Giclée is a French word which literally means “fine spray”. Giclée fine art prints are produced digitally on high quality inkjet printers, which have the capability to reproduce a much wider range of colours than conventional processes, due to the specially formulated inks and media used. As a result, Giclée prints resemble a close match to the original painting. They are also less prone to fade over time compared to other printing techniques. For more about Giclée prints, visit Nidd Imaging.

What is a “signed limited edition print”?

An edition is a limited run of a specific piece of artwork. For example, an edition of 250 means that only 250 pieces of that work will ever be printed. If you own a print with the number 2/250 then you own the second print from that print run. Once an edition is closed, no further prints will be made of it at that size. To confirm your print is a genuine signed limited edition print, it will be signed by artist Chrissie Kay and have an edition number detailed.

Are the prints mounted and framed?

No. None of the prints on this website come with frames or mounts. The price is just for the signed limited edition print alone, and the size specified refers to the full size of the print.

How much is shipping for a print?

Chrissie offers free UK shipping for signed limited edition print orders. For all other locations, the shipping cost will be automatically calculated at checkout once you add your address. Or you can choose “local pickup” instead to collect your order in person from The Chapel Gallery in Glasshouses, near Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire, UK . Please make sure you contact Chrissie to confirm collection arrangements so that your prints are packaged up ready for you and someone is available to hand your order over to you.

What locations do you send prints to?

Prints can be sent to any location worldwide. Shipping is free for UK addresses and calculated at checkout for all other locations.

How are the prints shipped?

Your prints will be shipped in strong cardboard tubes and sent by Royal Mail. By being carefully rolled up in a tube, your print is much less likely to be damaged than if it was sent to you flat.

When will I receive my print?

Your signed limited edition print will be sent out to you via Royal Mail within 7-28 days of your order. You will receive notification when your order has been dispatched. When you receive it after dispatch will depend on your location. In the UK, it will usually arrive within 3-5 working days; for other locations it will be longer.

How do I care for my print?

When your print arrives, take it carefully out of the tube and gently unroll it. Avoid touching the surface as oils can be transferred from your hands onto the print and rough treatment can scratch the surface and harm the pigment. We also recommend that you frame your print as soon as possible as this will help to protect it. Make sure you don’t place it in direct sunlight to prevent any fading of the print over time.

Do you offer refunds or replacements if I am unhappy with my print?

If your print is faulty in any way or has been damaged in transit, please notify Chrissie within 48 hours of receipt by replying to your dispatch email. Please explain why you wish to return the item and whether you want a replacement or refund. You must then return the print to Chrissie in the original packaging within 14 days at your own cost. Once the returned print has been received and checked, you will be given a replacement (with free shipping) or a full refund within 28 days. It is at Chrissie’s discretion whether the return qualifies for a full refund or replacement.

I have a problem with my print order – what should I do?

If you have any issues with your order, before or after purchase, please contact Chrissie and she will be in touch as soon as she can to help.
