About Yorkshire artist Chrissie Kay
Chrissie Kay hasn’t always been an artist, but she has always been creative. So she made the decision to finally do what she’d always dreamed of, and learn how to paint.
A series of synchronicities led her to study with the world renowned artist, Neil Simone. So taking up her paintbrushes and sourcing her inspiration from her surroundings, dreams and vivid imagination, she began to bring her art to life.
Living in the hidden gem of Nidderdale AONB on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales with her husband Tony and her little dog Kacey, Chrissie describes her passion for painting as her own way of pursuing “utopia”. Combining her love of the natural world with the magical and mystical, her art explores how the realism of nature can be woven together with an imaginary world .
With this as her motivation, it’s not surprising that she’s been described as “an artist whose work has a spiritual force of its own”.
Chrissie decided to explore the art of painting as a way to share her vision of the natural world’s wonder combined with a creative imagination. So for her as the creator, connecting with collectors who also find her deeply emotive paintings a form of escapism which evoke a sense of peace, harmony and wonder, is a wonderful thing.
Chrissie paints primarily in her preferred medium of oils, enjoying the way they replicate the vibrant colours of nature and give her art a rich depth and tone. She’s fascinated by the creative process of using layers and glazes to maximise the impact and intensity of colour and light in her paintings.
Her enthusiasm is evident. Despite having only fairly recently discovered the challenges of painting, she has begun a journey that has infinite possibilities – and is delighted to now be able to share her work with others.
